1708

On 26 October 1708, Christopher Wren's son, deputizing for his father, Edward Strong, the Master Mason, and Strong's son, also called Edward gathered to lay the last stone on the lantern of St Paul's Cathedral. 

This 'topping out' ceremony did not mark the end of construction and work continued on the building, particularly on the west front.
