Governance & People
Governance & People
The Corporation of the Cathedral Church of St Paul in London is made up of the Chapter, the Cathedral Council, College of Canons and College of Minor Canons.
Chapter
The Chapter makes up the governing body of St Paul’s and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the Cathedral. The
composition of the Chapter is a Dean, four Residentiary Canons with different
responsibilities across the Cathedral, and three Lay Canons each with a
different portfolio. St Paul’s has a new Dean beginning in May and is currently without a Canon Chancellor.
Members of Chapter
Cathedral Council
The Cathedral Council furthers and supports the work of the Cathedral
in many capacities including spiritual, pastoral, evangelistic, missionary,
social and ecumenical. It also reviews and advises upon the direction and
oversight of that work by the Chapter.
Members of Cathedral Council
College of Canons
The College of Canons deals with the election of the Bishop of London and advises the Bishop when requested. It also
receives and considers the annual report and audited accounts, as well as
discussing other matters raised.
Members of College of Canons
College of Minor Canons
The Minor Canons have particular areas of specialist responsibility
(ceremonial, pastoral and musical) though much of their ministry is shared and
overlaps in many respects. They are responsible for the singing of the choral
services. As priests of the Cathedral, they share a full part in celebrating
the Eucharist, preaching, officiating at marriages and baptisms, and providing
pastoral care and support to staff and visitors alike.
