Visit the City
Summer in the City
The City comes alive with music this summer with a host of performances from the City of London Festival (21 June to 6 August), the Spitalfields Music Summer Festival (11-26 June) and Barbican’s Blaze (19 June to 31 July).
And there’s plenty happening on the streets as the weather hots up. Keep an eye out for the Elephant Parade (until 4 July), artist-designed elephant sculptures at various London locations, with 15 in the City; six free table-tennis tables (24 July to 24 August) to celebrate the Cultural Olympiad; and pianos which are free for anyone to play as part of the City of London Festival.
Be sure to pay a visit to Museum of London’s amazing new galleries and don’t miss the Barbican’s big summer show, The Surreal House (10 June to 12 September), and Empire Mail at Guildhall Art Gallery, a look at stamp memorabilia from George V’s reign.
The cycling event the Smithfield Nocturne (19 June) returns promising an evening of high-energy fun, which might inspire you to hire a bike on-street as part of the new London-wide Cycle Hire scheme
