Summer in the City
Summers don’t get bigger and better than this! As the capital gears up for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Square Mile hosts a series of special events which will animate the streets and open up its venues.
Celebrate the City kicks things off in June. A one-off event, it opens doors to beautiful buildings such as Livery Halls, unlocks City treasures including the Magna Carta, and sees the launch of exciting new exhibitions at Guildhall Art Gallery, the Walbrook and the Bank of England Museum. The event will start with a bang with a performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture in Guildhall Yard on Thursday 21 June, followed by a champagne sundowner at Tower Bridge on Friday 22 June, then a not-to-be-missed street party on Cheapside on Saturday 23 June.
In addition, the 50th anniversary of the City of London Festival in July has a programme packed with must-see music and performance and the Barbican’s theatre spaces and galleries play their part in the London 2012 Festival.
Make sure you’re a part of the fun.
