James Featherstone appointed Interim Head of St Paul's Cathedral School
James brings extensive teaching experience in the private sector and current experience as a Head of an Independent Preparatory school, alongside a strong knowledge of boarding, working with choristers, and of the life and work of a Cathedral.
James was a chorister and later Choral Scholar at Durham before training as a French and Spanish teacher. He went on to teach and lead in Cambridge, including as Head of Lower School, and has spent the last ten years as Head of Exeter Cathedral School. During his tenure, the school has received significant recognition across the arts, academic outcomes and pupil wellbeing.
Writing of his appointment, James said:
“It’s a real honour to be entrusted with the stewardship of St Paul’s Cathedral School. It is clearly a very special place, and everything about it chimes with what matters most to me and to my family. I am really looking forward to joining the School and Cathedral communities, and to working alongside staff, parents/guardians, alumni, the Dean and Chapter and the wider foundation in our joint mission of championing a brilliant educational experience for pupils and their families.”
This appointment follows the news that the current Head, Judith Fremont-Barnes, will be leaving the School in the summer.
We look forward to welcoming James to the School and Cathedral community.
