Resilience and hope: marking 80 years of history
2025 sees the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. During the war – and Blitz especially – St Paul’s became a symbol of hope, strength and resilience.
Our historic building's survival of the Second World War was no accident. It was the result of the bravery and dedication of a group of people known as the St Paul's Watch, who looked after the Cathedral during air raids by putting out fires from the incendiary bombs that threatened our timber frame and lead roof. In this important anniversary year, we're putting their story under the spotlight, with a free outdoor exhibition and a short film honouring their memory and legacy at St Paul's.
Find out more about how we're remembering the Watch and the role St Paul's played in the Second World War below.
