Guided Tours

As well as the multimedia guides offered for your use, the Cathedral has a team of knowledgeable guides with many years of experience.


Introductory Talk (No extra cost above admission)
A 15-20 minute introduction to the history and architecture of the Cathedral.

Monday - Saturday Talks run regularly throughout the day

Guided Tours (No extra cost above admission)
A 90 minute guided tour in English covering the Cathedral floor and Crypt, as well as the Geometric Staircase, Chapel of St Michael & St George and the Quire - areas not usually open to visitors. 

Monday - Saturday 10am  |  11am  |  1pm  |  2pm
Please reserve a place at the guiding desk when you arrive. Advance reservations are not possible. The above is a typical schedule and there may be day to day variations. 

Private Group Guided Tours
Cathedral guides can be booked for the same 90 minute tour in English but on a private basis for your group at a small additional cost per person. You will need a minimum number of 10 people in your group and these tours must be pre-booked. It is also possible to book an Art Tour on a private group basis. 

A private group guided tour can usually start at one of the following times 10.15am  |  11.15am  |  1.15pm  |  2.15pm

Triforium Tour - public bookings
A one-hour tour in English which includes the library*, Geometric Staircase and Great Model, as well as a spectacular view down the nave from above the Great West Doors. The cathedral will offer public Triforium Tours (no minimum party size required to make a reservation and you will be with other visitors on the tour) on the following dates:

Please be aware that there are 141 steps to the Triforium level and no lift access available at present. Within the Triforium, the tour route includes up to a further 10 short flights of stairs (each no more than 10 steps).

Triforium Tour - private group bookings
A one-hour tour in English for a party of minimum 5 people, and maximum 20 (sometimes we can accommodate two simultaneous tours thereby increasing the maximum to 40), which includes the library*, Geometric Staircase and Great Model, as well as a spectacular view down the nave from above the Great West Doors. Tours generally available from the following schedule:

Touch Tours
A two-hour tour in English of the Cathedral Floor and Crypt which is suitable for people with vision impairments. Numbers are limited to 6 visitors plus additional places for an accompanying carer or necessary companion per person, i.e. a maximum of 12 people.

Cathedral Art Tours (no extra cost above admission)
A special 75 minute tour in English introducing some of the art to be found inside the Cathedral. The tour features Bill Viola's Martyrs (2014) and Mary (2016), two pieces created specifically for the Cathedral. Visitors will have the opportunity to spend time and discuss these modern-day altarpieces in a religious setting, with a cathedral guide, and experience the difference a sacred location may make on the installations. The tour will also include works by William Holman Hunt, Gerry Judah and Hughie O’Donoghue.
