Guided Tours

As well as the multimedia guides offered for your use, the Cathedral has a team of knowledgeable guides with many years of experience to engage with you during your visit. 

Introductory Talk (Free for ticket holders)  
A 15-20 minute introduction to the history and architecture of the Cathedral.

Monday - Saturday* *Crypt talk at 12.15pm, Monday - Friday only at present. Places subject to availability. Please enquire at the guiding desk when you arrive for additional talks which may be available on the day.

Guided Tours (Free for ticket holders) 
A guided tour in English for around 60 minutes covering the Cathedral floor and Crypt, as well as the Geometric Staircase and the Quire - areas not usually open to visitors. 

Monday - Saturday 1pm, 1.30pm, 2pm, 2.30pm (2.30pm tour not available on Thursdays). Places subject to availability. Please enquire at the guiding desk when you arrive. Advance reservations are not possible.

Geometric Staircase Viewing and Introductory Talk (Free for ticket holders)  *NEW*
An opportunity to view the magnificent Geometric Staircase with a 10 minute introduction to its history and architecture.

Monday - Saturday Please enquire at the guiding desk when you arrive, as these viewings are subject to availability.

Private Group Guided Tours
Cathedral guides can be booked for the same 60 minute tour in English but on a private basis for your group at a small additional cost per person. These tours must be pre-booked and there is a minimum chargeable number of 10 places. We can typically accommodate up to 50 visitors in one tour booking and will usually provide more than one guide for such larger groups. 

A private group guided tour can usually start at one of the following times 1.15pm  |  2.15pm

Triforium Tour 
A one-hour tour in English which includes access up and down the iconic Geometric Staircase, the library*, the Trophy Room and Great Model, as well as a spectacular view down the nave from above the Great West Doors. A great option if you have been to St Paul's before and want to go behind the scenes to see more of the Cathedral. We will offer Triforium Tours on the following dates:

* Please note that the library closed for refurbishments at the beginning of August 2018. The tour will not enter the library and extra time will be allocated elsewhere. We expect to be able to show you the restored library without its books present from mid-January to March 2022, and with books present from July 2022.
These tours can be pre-booked online from one month in advance. A valid admission ticket, Annual Pass or other admission entitlement will also be required in order to visit on the day of the tour.
Please be aware that there are 88 steep steps to the Triforium level and no lift access available at present. Within the Triforium, the tour route includes several short flights of stairs (each no more than 10 steps).

Triforium Tour - private group bookings
A one-hour tour in English for a party of minimum 5 people, and maximum 15 (sometimes we can accommodate two simultaneous tours thereby increasing the maximum to 30), which includes access up and down the iconic Geometric Staircase, the library*, the Trophy Room and Great Model, as well as a spectacular view down the nave from above the Great West Doors. Tours generally available from the following schedule:

Touch Tours
A two-hour tour in English of the Cathedral Floor and Crypt which is suitable for people with vision impairments. Numbers are limited to 6 visitors plus additional places for an accompanying carer or necessary companion per person, i.e. a maximum of 12 people. 

Tours on request, subject to guide availability.  
  Free for ticket holders. Please note that complimentary entry can be granted to a disabled visitor and an accompanying carer or necessary companion.
