The Order of St Michael and St George Service of Commemoration and Dedication
16 July 2008
On 16th July, HM The Queen attended the service at St Paul's.
The Queen was greeted at the foot of the Cathedral steps by the Lord Mayor and was then received by the Dean and Chapter at the Great West Door.
During the opening few minutes of the service, the Queen, Grand Master, the Officers and the Members of the Order assembled in the Chapel of St Michael and St George at the West End of the Cathedral. There the affixing of the Banner and the Installation of the newly appointed King of Arms took place. Prayer was then offered for the whole body of men and women associated in Membership.
In the second part of the service, the banner of the Late Knight Grand Cross was symbolically laid on the High Altar. The past was then commemorated and those who have died since the last Service of the Order were named.
After a short period of prayer when the wider needs of the world and the nation in particular were mentioned, every Member of the Order present was invited to renew his or her commitment to faith and service.
The National Anthem and the Blessing brought the act of worship to a close. Accompanied by the music of Elgar and others, the Queen, The Grand Master, the Officers and Members of the Order processed from the Cathedral.
