The East India Company at St Paul's

A digital trail produced in collaboration with Stepney Community Trust.

Stepney Community Trust logoMuseums Association logo

For this project, we have worked with Stepney Community Trust to explore the history of the British Empire in South Asia. The aim was to understand shared pasts in order to shape our shared future.

We used our collection of monuments to promote conversation, debate and action. On these webpages and our digital trail around the Cathedral, you will find a short history of the East India Company in connection with the monuments and memorials on the Cathedral Floor and in the Crypt. Visit in person, pick up a helpful leaflet and follow the map to explore the trail, or discover more online - scroll down this page for more.

This trail describes historic events and their consequences, and may include content or language which is upsetting or challenging.
