St Paul’s Cathedral is delighted to announce that the St Paul’s Cathedral Trust in America – its US fundraising arm – has raised $300,000 at a Gala Dinner in New York held to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the American Memorial Chapel.
Lady Mary Soames, daughter of Sir Winston Churchill whose state funeral was held at the Cathedral in 1965, spoke as did Jon Meacham, Editor of Newsweek and The Right Reverend Graeme Knowles, Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral.
The dinner included a live auction of prizes amongst which were a champagne reception with the Dean of St Paul’s along with a private tour of the Cathedral.
St Paul’s has long enjoyed a strong relationship with the US. The American Memorial Chapel commemorates the 28,000 members of the US forces who gave their lives during World War II whilst stationed in Britain. Each Thanksgiving Day, the Cathedral hosts a service for the American Community in London.
Nigel Kirkup, Director of St. Paul’s Cathedral Foundation, said:
"We would like to thank all those who attended the Gala Dinner and so generously supported the evening. The funds raised will help further the work of St Paul’s Cathedral.”
