The sound of pealing bells will ring out across London on 4th July as the National 12 Bell Striking Contest takes place at St Paul's Cathedral.
The competition lasts five hours and the sound will reach as far as Temple in the East and Waterloo to the South.
The National 12 Bell Striking Contest is the principal change ringing striking competition in the UK. St Paul's is hosting the finals of the competition where nine will battle it out to win the Taylor Trophy.
The competition has been held annually since 1975, and is open to any tower where 12 Bell ringing is practised regularly. Each team must complete a test piece which will be judged on the evenness of the stroke of each of the bells in relations to the other 11. The more even the striking, the more pleasant it is to listen to.
St Paul's Cathedral Ringing Master Paul Mounsey, said "We're pleased to welcome teams from throughout the UK to St Paul's – and we are aiming for a home victory on our bells!”
