Meg Munn appointed as new Chair of the Safeguarding Advisory Group for St Paul’s
The SAG works to ensure the highest standards of safeguarding are being met here, providing independent oversight and reporting directly to Chapter – our governing body. As Chair of the SAG, Meg will also prepare an annual safeguarding report to set out how we’re doing, highlight areas of strength, and help make sure we continue to learn, improve and keep people safe.
Meg brings a range of invaluable experience to the role, with a background in children’s social work and various senior positions in local authorities across Yorkshire. From 2001 to 2015, she was Member of Parliament for the constituency of Sheffield Heeley, and while in Government served as Minister for Women and Equality as well as a Minister in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Since standing down from Parliament in 2015, she has held a variety of non-executive roles in the UK, including in higher education, national regulation, housing and safeguarding, and was the first independent Chair of the Church of England’s National Safeguarding Panel from 2018 to 2023.
Meg shared:
"I am pleased to be appointed independent Chair of the Safeguarding Advisory Group of St Paul’s Cathedral, and to follow Peter Spindler, the first independent Chair. I look forward to building on his important work and, through the work of the Group, supporting the Cathedral with independent advice to ensure safeguarding remains central to its life and mission.”
