The Reverend Emma Walden appointed as new Succentor

We're excited to announce that The Reverend Emma Walden has been appointed as our new Succentor. Emma takes on the role from The Reverend Timothy Miller, who moves into the role of our Sacrist.

In her new role, Emma will play a key role in the planning, management, and delivery of daily and special services, especially those of a musical nature. She will also share responsibility with our Canon Precentor in caring for Cathedral musicians.

Welcoming Emma to the role, St Paul’s Precentor, The Revd Canon Philip Banks, commented:

“We're delighted that Emma is joining the team here at St Paul's. She comes to us after completing a very successful curacy in Stratford-upon-Avon and knows well the joys and challenges of ministry in a popular visitor destination. Her breadth of experience across church traditions, and from her previous career in marketing makes her well placed to step into this role and continue the excellent work done by her predecessor and fellow Minor Canon, The Reverend Timothy Miller.”

Speaking about her appointment, The Revd Emma Walden said:

“It is an immense joy and privilege to be appointed as Succentor of St Paul’s Cathedral. I'm looking forward to contributing to the worship, music and special events in this vibrant and iconic place and to working alongside the rest of the ministers, staff and volunteers to bring alive the Cathedral's mission and ministry.

"For me, this is dream opportunity - to be able to worship God in this beautiful place, standing within a living tradition and sharing it with all who come, whatever their background or experience of faith. I am looking forward to being part of the warm welcome which people receive here and to helping everyone experience something of the mystery and love of God and to grow into all they were created to be.”

Emma is currently the Assistant Curate of the Parish of Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire, where she served her title. She trained for ministry at St Mellitus College and was ordained in 2023.  She will move to London over the summer and her installation will take place during Evensong on 20th September.
