St Paul’s hosts live sculpting under the Dome in support of Wren Centre of Excellence
Lady Petchey performed a live sculpting under the dome, creating a bust of the Cathedral’s architect, Sir Christopher Wren, from his death mask. The evening also featured behind the scenes conversations with our dedicated craftspeople, including our carpenters and stonemasons.
The event raised important funds for the Wren International Centre of Excellence, a world-class training centre based at the Cathedral to secure the future of these skills and safeguard historic buildings for generations to come. Earlier this year, we launched our new heritage craft apprenticeship programme and shared plans for the development of the new facility.
Our Director of Property, Rebecca Thompson, said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Lady Petchey to our celebration of heritage craft.
"The Wren International Centre of Excellence is our commitment to safeguard traditional craft skills, honour the legacy of those who shaped our past, and equip the next generation to protect historic buildings for the future.
“I think Sir Christopher Wren would be really proud of the work that we’re doing to continue what he did.”
