Ascension Organ Meditation
A special organ meditation for the Ascension.
David Dunnett plays L'Ascension by Olivier Messiaen.
Our series of Organ Meditations offers a unique chance to experience sound, spoken word, architecture, and time through the medium of organ music.
In a world where peacefulness and stillness are increasingly hard to come by, you are invited to take this opportunity to sit within Christopher Wren’s extraordinary masterpiece and allow yourself to respond inwardly to the music and words in whatever way feels right to you. Listening can take many forms and serve many needs – reflection, prayer, creativity, memory, or simple rest.
There is no prescribed response. You may wish to gaze upward into the Dome, to focus on the colours in the Quire, to watch the organist and the physicality of playing the organ, or you may wish to close your eyes and either let the sound wash over you or concentrate on the vast array of colours the organ can produce. We hope that in this sacred, architectural and musical embrace, you will find space, stillness and inspiration.
Everyone is welcome.
