Frederick G BIRD
Private Frederick G Bird
7th Battalion, The Royal Dublin Fusiliers
Private Bird enlisted on 25 May 1914, before war was declared with the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. The 2nd Battalion of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry served on the Western Front in 1914 and then on the Macedonian Front from 1915 to 1918. The 7th Royal Dublin Fusiliers arrived on this front from Gallipoli in October 1915 and remained there until April 1918. Conscription was not implemented in Ireland. Losses were made good by transferring soldiers from British regiments.
The 7th Royal Dublin Fusiliers moved to France in April 1918 and were reduced to a cadre on 6 June 1918. The surplus soldiers were transferred to the 2nd Battalion. Private Bird was with this Battalion in May 1919.
Private Bird was treated at the Bethnal Green Military Hospital, London.
