On Sunday 14th September, we welcomed the Reverend Timothy Miller as the Cathedral’s new Succentor at a special Evensong.

The service was presided over by the Bishop of London, the Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE.

As the Cathedral’s Succentor, Timothy will play a key role in the planning, management, and delivery of daily and special services at St Paul’s, especially those of a musical nature.

The Reverend Timothy Miller, Succentor of St Paul’s Cathedral, said:

“St Paul’s Cathedral has featured heavily in my story of faith – first as a curious visitor, then as a pilgrim, and then as a volunteer Duty Priest. I’ve been continually struck by the beauty of worship at St Paul’s, and it is a privilege to now serve the community as Succentor.

“It is my desire that everyone continues to find a warm welcome here. I want to extend an invitation all, to come to the Cathedral, to worship, to pray, and to encounter God.”

The Precentor of St Paul’s Cathedral, The Revd Canon Philip Banks, said:

“Timothy brings a rich blend of pastoral warmth, theological insight and liturgical experience to this role which will help people to feel not only welcome but stirred to meet with God in worship.

“Having volunteered as a Duty Priest at St Paul’s since 2022, Timothy already knows the heart of this place and its people. His longstanding commitment to ministry, both locally and internationally, will be a great gift to our community.”

Sunday’s service also saw the installation of three new Prebendaries and an Honorary Ecumenical Canon, who have been appointed by the Bishop of London in recognition of their contributions to ministry across the Diocese.

The Reverend Dr Julie Gittoes, Vicar of St Mary’s Hendon, was installed as Prebendary of Newington. She has held leadership roles in parish and deanery settings and contributed to national theological work through the Church of England’s Faith and Order Commission.

The Reverend Angus Ritchie, Associate Priest at St George-in-the-East, was installed as Prebendary of Caddington Minor. He is recognised for his work in community organising and theological development through the Centre for Theology and Community.

The Reverend Jonathan Rust, Director of Mission for the Kensington Area and formerly Vicar of St Mary’s Holloway, was installed as Prebendary of Reculversand. His work has focused on strategic mission development and supporting parish growth across the Diocese.

In addition, The Reverend Jennifer Mills-Knutsen was installed as Honorary Ecumenical Canon, a title conferred on those from other Christian traditions who have made significant contributions to ecumenical dialogue and the wider Church.

The Bishop of London, the Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE, said:

“This Special Evensong marks a joyful moment for the wider Church in London, as we celebrate the installation of new Prebendaries and an Honorary Ecumenical Canon.

“Their ministries reflect the breadth of worship traditions and expressions across our Diocese, and the strength that comes from unity in diversity.”
