Filming and photography

There are some simple rules we ask our visitors to follow when taking photos inside the Cathedral, to respect the privacy of others.

When is visitor photography allowed inside?

Visitors are welcome to photograph the Cathedral during sightseeing hours, Monday to Saturday. Up to date opening hours can be found on our visit us page.

We do ask, that to be respectful and mindful of the privacy of others, visitors don't take photographs during any of our services. If you're unsure about when our services take place, view our services calendar or speak to one of our Ministers, Virgers, Visitor Experience staff or Visitor Experience Volunteers.

Occasionally we may designate ‘no photography’ areas on a temporary basis, but these will be clearly signed.

Where is visitor photography allowed?

Non-flash stills photography for personal (non-commercial) use is welcomed across the Cathedral Floor, in the Crypt and on the Stone and Golden Galleries. For health and safety reasons, photography is not permitted on the Whispering Gallery. As St Dunstan’s Chapel is a specially designated space for private prayer and reflection, photography is not allowed in this area.

What equipment can I use?

Cameras and phone and tablet cameras are fine to use. To make sure the Cathedral is a safe, enjoyable and accessible place everyone, we ask that visitors don't use flash photography or additional lighting, tripods, monopods, gimbals or selfie sticks.

Do you allow videography?

Videography and the recording of moving images by visitors is not allowed. If you're interested in finding out more about commercial and news filming and photography or feature filming, please visit our page for professional filmmakers for more information.

Can I take wedding or engagement photos?

Only couples who are marrying at St Paul's are able to have wedding photography here. We're unable to accommodate wedding and engagement photography requests inside the Cathedral and on our land from couples who are not getting married here.

I am a digital content creator / commercial photographer wanting to organise a shoot. What should I do?

Please visit our page for film, TV, professional photography and influencer content creation to find out more.
