School choral partnerships programme

School choral partnerships programme

We aim to offer the highest quality music provision to schools, enabling pupils to connect with over a thousand years of Cathedral history and our world-famous choral tradition.

Our choral partnership programme gives young people the opportunity to engage meaningfully with the heritage of faith – no matter what they believe – and to explore their emotions together through weekly, curriculum-based, whole-class-singing sessions and collective worship.

“Music is transformative and has the greatest impact among children with few opportunities available to them.”

William Bruce, Artistic Director of Choral Partnerships.

What to expect

Explore how our choral partnership works in practice — from curriculum content to session details and performance opportunities.

Who will lead the sessions?

Sessions are led by our team of Choral Animateurs, all experienced educators and professional musicians. Our staff are all fully DBS-checked and receive rigorous and regular safeguarding training to support their work with children and young people in educational settings.

What is the content of the sessions?

Each session follows our innovative Choral Curriculum, which features a rich diversity of repertoire and provides clear links to the Model Music Curriculum (2021), which your Choral Animateur will report on termly.

How often will you come?

Choral Partner Schools receive weekly, whole-class singing sessions, delivered on your school site by a vocal specialist from our Cathedral Music Department.

How long are the sessions?

Sessions last for up to 30 minutes with each class, and most Choral Partner Schools implement our provision to enhance their KS2 Music Curriculum offering.

How many children can you take?

We can accommodate up to 60 children, and school teaching staff must be present at all times.

What space or equipment do we need to provide?

Schools must provide a suitable space for sessions, with projection and access to a piano or keyboard, for example a school hall).

When will the children perform?

Planning will be shared at the start of each term once arrangements for specific performances, both inside and outside of school – including at St Paul’s Cathedral – have been agreed.

“The children were focused, engaged, thoroughly enjoying their session and rightly proud of all that they had learned throughout the course of the year, confidently exercising their new vocabulary and concepts.’’

Music partnerships

If you work in a school, there are a myriad of ways you can partner with St Paul’s through our OBE Music Partnerships, and help us inspire children across London and beyond. In addition to our Sing at St Paul's workshops, we run regular choirs and can give your group the opportunity to learn all about our Grand Organ.
