Residentiary Canon and Precentor

The Crown and the Bishop of London are seeking to appoint a senior priest to the post of Residentiary Canon and Precentor, as the Chapter Executive Lead for the Liturgy, Worship and Special Events.As a member of Chapter, you will be fully involved in the spiritual life, outreach, governance and operations of the Cathedral. You will be committed to good stewardship of people and resources, inter-culturally skilled and strategically creative.What does it mean to be a Residentiary Canon at St Paul’s Cathedral?St Paul’s has an exciting mission and ministry full of opportunities and challenges which touches the lives of over a million people a year – including visitors, worshippers, young people, and the City of London.  As a Residentiary Canon, you will be fully involved in the mission, work and ministry of the Cathedral, with a calling to inspire and encourage others with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.The Canon Precentor will:Be a member of ChapterHold an executive role in the CathedralBe a Minister in the Cathedral.The role of the PrecentorThe Precentor will oversee, manage and support the work of the Liturgy, Worship and Special Events Directorate. As Director, the Precentor is responsible for around 20 FTE staff with a budget of £1.5m rising to £2.3m following Girls’ Voices Project 2025.Within this directorate there are four departments:The Liturgical Office organises and enables the day-to-day worship of the Cathedral as well as special services.The Music Department delivers world-class music for worship, concerts and other occasions.The Virgers’ Department provides practical facilitation and support for the Cathedral’s worship.Special Events plan and manage special events and services for the Cathedral.For the full person specification and role description, please visit the link above.The deadline for applications is Sunday 21st April at 11:59pm. Cleaner

We are looking for a new recruit to join our friendly cleaning team, working in the Cathedral and its associated buildings. This is a fantastic opportunity to work behind the scenes of one of the most iconic buildings in the world, keeping it safe and clean for all its visitors, staff and volunteers.The role includes cleaning the steps leading up to the famous frontage of the Cathedral, the vast and beautiful Cathedral floor, the largest crypt in Europe, the hidden corridor of the Triforium, the breath-taking galleries, plus staff offices and communal areas. To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be comfortable with the everyday manual work, including the 500+ stairs to the Galleries. We’d also love someone with a positive approach to work, who is reliable and who enjoys working as part of a team. The successful applicant will also be expected to share in St Paul’s Cathedral’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.In return you’ll find we are a welcoming place to work and we each take responsibility for our part in the Cathedral’s work, looking after St Paul’s for the next generation. Our holiday allowance is 25 days plus bank holidaysOur pension scheme allows for up to 7.5% employer contributionAnd as you might expect we have life assurance of four times basic salary and an employee assistance programme.The closing date for applications is Sunday 27th July at 11.59pm.Interviews will be held Tuesday 5th August 2025.
