Join us under the Dome of Christopher Wren's masterpiece to hear the world-famous organ of St Paul's Cathedral in the hands of some of the world's finest players.
Echoes and innovations
With his innovative projects, exceptional organ improvisations and live electronics performances, composer and organist Franz Danksagmüller is considered one of the most creative minds in the international concert scene.
In this recital, the organ will be combined with live electronics, including the organist scanning his own brainwaves to create sound.
During the performance, Franz will wear an EEG scanner that records brainwaves. These signals become audible, influence the sound of the organ, and serve as source material for a solo voice. The resulting sounds, in turn, affect the brainwaves - creating a feedback loop between mind and music. So what, then, is the true origin of the emerging sonic structures?
Franz will also wear a MIDI glove that tracks the movements of his fingers, allowing him to transpose the organ’s sound in real time - while simultaneously playing the instrument. The result is a microtonal transformation of the organ’s tuning. In this piece, the tuning is scaled by the transcendental number π, creating a sonic landscape beyond equal temperament and the twelve-tone system.
Tickets cost £12, with £8 concessions.
