Our new exhibition, A Dangerous Calling: 500 Years of William Tyndale’s New Testament, will open from 5th June 2026 until February 2027, telling the extraordinary story of one of the smallest yet most dangerous books in English history 500-years on from its publication.
Cathedral floor and Crypt
Explore the pages of the Tyndale in our interactive digital display on the Cathedral Floor. Flick through historic pages, and explore the words, illustrations and typography printed by Tyndale himself. Continue to explore the exhibition in the Crypt: watch a short film about the life of Tyndale and get hands on with activities for all ages.
Access to the Cathedral floor and Crypt is included with a sightseeing ticket.
Triforium tours and library display
From 5th June, tour our historic Triforium to see the 500-year-old first edition copy of William Tyndale's New Testament in our centuries old Library nestled above the Cathedral floor.
Travel through time and see how this once forbidden text transformed England by giving all people ‘from princes to ploughboys’ the chance to experience first-hand the word of God.
The exhibition reveals how this forbidden text became a valuable item within 15 years, and how William Tyndale risked everything to make the English Bible available to all people across the country.
Including the Tyndale, there will be six bibles in total on display in the library:
- Tyndale New Testament (Worms: Schoeffer, 1526)
- Tyndale Pentateuch (first five books of the Old Testament) (1534)
- The Newe Testament, in Englyshe and in Latyn (London : 1538)
- Matthew Bible 1537 (‘Bugge Bible’) 38.A.1. [1st ed]
- Great/Cranmer’s Bible Nov. 1541 38.A.6 [3rd ed]
- KJV (Cambridge: John Field, 1660)
Please note, Triforium tours are an additional ticket to our sightseeing ticket.
