Summer of Stories: Artists and poets

Join us for fun, drop-in family activities in the Cathedral throughout August. Included with your sightseeing ticket.

Get creative with this week's theme of 'Artists and poets' and enjoy hands-on activities for the whole family! 

This week you can:

  • Discover what inspired the sculptor Henry Moore and have a go at making your own maquette with air-drying clay. Thursday to Saturday, 10.30am to 12pm and 1pm to 2.30pm.
  • Explore the Cathedral in a family sketching tour with sketching, drawing activities and a few different surprises instore! Thursday and Friday, 11.15am and 2.15pm.
  • Join RIBA Learning (Royal Institute of British Architects) and explore the Cathedral to find the different word cues to make drawings and/or write short poems in various inspirational views. Thursday, 10.30am to 12pm and 1pm to 2.30pm.
  • Join poet Pẹ̀lúmi Obasanju for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Cathedral and get the creative juices flowing in an interactive poetry workshop. Saturday, 11.15am and 1.30pm. Morning session is BSL interpreted

All ages welcome.

All activities are included with a sightseeing ticket, which you can purchase on our ticket page.

We offer a range of options for families, including: Family group tickets, £1 tickets for UK visitors receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or Employment Support Allowance, and our Friends Family Membership which gives unlimited visits for a whole year.

Accessibility

BSL interpretation is available for the 11.15am poetry workshop.

The North Transept entrance has ramped access, and this is the recommended entrance for wheelchair users and people requiring step-free access. The entrance leads directly onto the Cathedral floor. 

Guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs are all welcome in the Cathedral.
