Pergolesi’s setting of the medieval hymn, Stabat Mater, reflects on Mary’s agony at the foot of the cross and poignantly articulates Christ’s suffering through music.
Join us this Lent as Patrick Craig and Lucy Winkett reflect on this profound piece of music. As well as spoken reflections, the evening will be interspersed by live performances of movements from Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, a setting Lucy and Patrick have sung together many times.
Patrick Craig is a professional singer who is a long-standing member of St Paul's Cathedral Choir and The Cardinall's Musick, and who recently completed a thousand concerts with The Tallis Scholars. He is also the Founder-Director of the all-female professional choir Aurora Nova who sing regularly at St Paul's Cathedral.
The Revd Lucy Winkett is Rector of St James’s Piccadilly, and was formerly Precentor at St Paul’s Cathedral. She writes and broadcasts regularly on religion, music and contemporary culture. Before training for priesthood, Lucy sang professionally – including with Patrick.
BSL interpretation will be provided at this event: please let us know if you require seats in the area reserved for this by emailing SPCI@stpaulscathedral.org.uk.
The event is free, but if you are able to make a donation to the continuing learning programme at St Paul’s Cathedral when you register for the event we would be very grateful.
