Announcement of the Death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh
Friday 9th April 2021
It is with great sadness that we have heard of the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
The Cathedral is open for Private Prayer today from Midday to 3.30pm but capacity is severely limited owing to current Covid restrictions.
A special Choral Evensong will be broadcast on Saturday 10th April at 5.00pm on BBC Radio 3. Owing to current restrictions there is no public attendance at this special Choral Evensong, and in order to facilitate this service the Cathedral will not open tomorrow.
An online book of condolence is available from the Church of England website. On the advice of the Cabinet Office we will not be having a physical book of condolence at the Cathedral.
A Prayer of Thanksgiving for the life of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh
Creator of Heaven and Earth, you give us breath and call us to live with you. We thank you for the life of your servant Philip, for all the good things he gave to others, and for his faithful service. Remember him in death, grant him rest and peace, and open the way to life with you forever. Amen.
