In 2017, a memorial service was held at St Paul’s for victims of the Grenfell Fire – the worst residential fire in the UK since World War II.

Walter Matthews became Dean in 1934; a post he would hold for 33 years, during which time he was instrumental in the establishment of the Friends of St Paul's.

This royal charter is the earliest surviving item within the Cathedral Archives, dating from July 1099/1100. Written in Latin, it provides confirmation from King William II to the canons of St Paul’s of their rights of jurisdiction over their property.
