Project Archivist

We are currently recruiting for a Project Archivist to join our Collections team on a part time, fixed term basis. The Collections department take care of our archives, library and objects – each collection featuring some remarkable historical artefacts, that together tell the story of our spiritual, architectural, artistic and social heritage.As part of the team, you will be responsible for: Finalising project programme, key deadlines and records assessment criteria with the Archivist and Records Manager.Creating detailed records lists by adding to existing lists.Assessing material in line with appropriate criteria and recommending appropriate disposal decisions for authorisation.Ensuring the secure and authorised destruction of records not selected for preservation as appropriate by following agreed procedures.Undertaking weeding of records in line with agreed criteria.Creating catalogue and name authority records, as required, for material identified for transfer to the Archive.Re-housing material identified for permanent preservation and making preservation recommendations, as required.Providing regular updates on progress and advising the Archivist and Records Manager on different aspects of the project as required.  Any other appropriate duties that the line manager, senior management or Chapter may request from time-to-time.The successful applicant will have: Postgraduate qualification in archive administration (MA/Diploma Archives and Records Management or similar) with experience of archival work; OR substantial equivalent experience at a professional levelExperience of processing large volumes of paper materialGood knowledge of GDPR, its associated legislation and its practical application in an archival contextUnderstanding of the handling and preservation needs of modern recordsGood understanding of national and international archival standards and their practical applicationGood general IT skills and experience of specialist cataloguing softwareExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAccuracy and attention to detailExcellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlinesSelf-motivated with the ability to manage own workload as well as work as part of a teamDesirable 
•    Experience of working with ecclesiastical and/or business archives 
•    Experience of Adlib and/or Axiell Collections cataloguing softwareThe successful applicant will also be expected to share in St Paul’s Cathedral’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

In return you’ll find we are a welcoming place to work and we each take responsibility for our part in the Cathedral’s work, looking after St Paul’s for the next generation.  Our annual holiday allowance is 25 days plus bank holidays (FTE) or 33 days inclusive of bank holidays (FTE)Our pension scheme allows for up to 7.5% employer contributionAnd as you might expect we have life assurance of four times basic salary and an employee assistance programme
