Aidan McQuade: "There is a poster I saw in the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool, which said, 'Remember not that we were enslaved, but that we fought'. That struggle continues to this day from India brick kilns, to Thai fishing boats, to European agricultural fields, sustained often only by the belief that we can overcome."
Aminatta Forna: "It could have been me, it could have been you. Millions of enslaved Africans were taken from the coast of West Africa to the Americas. My family were lucky not to be taken. If we could all imagine ourselves into the lives of others history might have taken a different shape. Imagination is the root of empathy, as a writer this is what we believe."
