St Paul's appoints new Canon Treasurer to its Chapter

St Paul’s Cathedral is delighted at the appointment of the Reverend Prebendary Philippa Jane Boardman to the position of Canon Treasurer.
After having been approved by Her Majesty The Queen, the news was announced by Downing Street this morning (28 January).
Prebendary Boardman, 49, was amongst the first group of women to be ordained priest in the Diocese of London in 1994. She served two curacies at Walthamstow, St Mary and St Stephen, in the Diocese of Chelmsford from 1990 to 1993 and at Hackney Wick St Mary of Eton with St Augustine, in the Diocese of London, from 1993 to 1996.
Between 1996 and 2003 she was first Priest-in-Charge at Old Ford St Paul and St Mark and since 2003 she has been Vicar.
In 2011 she was awarded the MBE for Services to Heritage in East London in recognition of her work to renovate and re-open the parish church of
St Paul, Old Ford.
She has served on the General Synod of the Church of England since 1994 and as a Member of the Church of England Church Buildings Council since 2009. Since 2002 she has also been Prebendary of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Prebendary Boardman is single. She lists among her interests cinema, travel, charity fun runs and supporting her favourite football team.
As Treasurer, Canon Boardman will have particular responsibility for matters to do with finance and fabric at St Paul's, including oversight of the nearly 40-strong Works Staff.
The Dean of St Paul's, the Very Revd David Ison, said: "We are delighted to have such an able and experienced priest on the staff of St Paul's, a warm-hearted and inspirational Christian leader who comes with a wealth of experience to share in the use of buildings to serve the mission of the Church.”
Prebendary Boardman said: "St Paul's Cathedral is a place of inspiring Christian heritage which witnesses to the love of God in Jesus Christ, and I look forward to joining clergy colleagues, staff and volunteers in welcoming people here, from London and across the world.”
It is expected that Prebendary Boardman will be installed into her new post at the end of May 2013.
The post of Canon Chancellor held until 2011 by Canon Giles Fraser was filled by Canon Mark Oakley, formerly the Treasurer, on 11January 2013.
